It is with joy that High River United Church announces that we are open, public, intentional and explicit in our welcoming of those in the LGBTQ+ community and their family and friends, creating a space that is safe and respectful for all. We believe that this is the Way of Jesus, and we are committed to following what he lived and taught. Jesus was often found eating and associating with those who had been cast out and judged by society. He welcomed each person as a precious beloved child of God. And we are committed to doing the same!
On Sunday, April 2nd, 2023, the people of High River United Church overwhelmingly voted in favour of becoming an Affirming congregation (https://affirmunited.ause.ca/). Here is what we have pledged as followers of Jesus:
Rooted in the love of God and grounded in the teachings of Jesus, High River United Church is a
community of help, home and hope. In the spirit of Jesus' radical love, we open our hearts and doors
to be a safe community where no one feels alone. We celebrate all people in the full spectrum of gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic identity, colour, race, age, ability, mental status, family composition
and social and economic circumstances. We are committed to making space for all to fully participate
in the worship and work of our community.
