Church Events
One World Market
In our commitment to “do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God,” we have established an on-going One World Market in our church. Week days at the church office (Monday-Thursday 9:30 a.m to 12:30 pm) and Sunday mornings, the following items are available for purchase:
Palestinian Embroidery
in 2011, a group from High River United Church toured Egypt and the Holy Land. While visiting Palestine, they were introduced to the Arab Christian Women’s Cooperative, where the women make wonderful embroidered items to support their families, since their husbands are no longer allowed into Israel to work, and little work is available for the men in Palestine. The decision was made to import their handwork, providing another market for the women.
These are beautiful items, with multi-colour embroidery on black or white backgrounds. We have eye glass cases, bookmarks, scarves, purses, table runners and more, ranging in price from $10 to $65.
Locally Made Items
Handmade items of all sorts – proceeds go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers project. http://www.stephenlewisfoundation.org/get-involved/grandmothers-campaign
Handmade items include:
Baby Slippers – crocheted, knitted and sewn. Have a look at our “cowboy boots.”
Dishcloths & Teatowels – in a variety of colours
Hats, mitts and scarves.
and many other items that appear from our creative congregational members.
Pure Mexican Vanilla
HRUC offers both clear and dark colour pure Mexican vanilla for sale in the office in 236 ml (8 oz.) bottles for $10 each.
Christmas Market
In December, often in conjunction with the Santa Claus parade, we hold our annual Gifts of Hope Christmas Market. The sale of gently-used decorations and jewelry, crafts, baking, One World Market items and more have enabled us to send thousands of dollars annually to social justice organizations around the world. Watch for our next Christmas Market the first weekend of December.
Garage Sales
Each spring, we hold a garage sale as part of our commitment to caring for the earth by re-using gently used household items, books and toys. We welcome community donations and help. Watch our announcements for upcoming garage sales.
Workshops
Healing Energy Work, Women’s Retreats, Preparing for Christmas, Baking, Art Therapy….
these are just some of the types of workshops that we hold on a regular basis in our church facility.
Watch our announcements for workshops that we are hosting or go to our “Renting our Facility” page to find out about booking our facility to host your own workshop.
