At High River United Church, we want to offer affordable opportunities for people to care for their bodies, minds & spirits – Meditation, Healing Hands, Study Groups, Yoga and now, starting on 

 

Wednesday, April 3rd, Kung Fu (Wing Chun) offered by Derek Rowe, who has studied Wing Chun Kung Fu for 12 years. Instructor level of training. Kung Fu cardio instruction and basic skills and forms of Chinese Kung Fu.

 

 No prior experience or training necessary to attend!

 

 The 1st, 2nd, 4th (and sometimes 5th) Wednesdays.  No session on the 3rd Wednesdays

 

 7:00 - 7:45 pm- Cardio & Conditioning portion

 

 7:45- 8:30 pm- Stretching, meditation and self-defense portion.

 

 Come for one part of the evening or for both parts.

 

 Cost $2 per evening (for 1 or both parts)

 

 Please bring a water bottle. Non-marking shoes are allowed and are usually worn. Bare feet is also okay. Be prepared to sweat.

 

 For those ages 14 years and up, this program will have two 45 minute sessions. The first 45 minutes will focus on Body Conditioning and Cardio aspects of Kung Fu. The second 45 minutes will allow us to open our minds and bodies to forms and meditation. Self Defense and Focus will be prominent during this session.

 

The challenging first 45 minutes will open up new and different opportunities to promote health and well being. This cardio will include modified and advanced kung fu practices that will be helpful for all levels of age and experience. Different kicking and punching patterns using focus mitts will be used as well as partner drills.

 

The second session will allow the students to explore different self defense abilities and combat skills which will include knife defenses, chi sau and forms.  Stretching and meditation will be included during this section of learning.

 

The goal will be to shape our bodies and minds to deal with the pressures and stresses of life outside and inside work or home life. We want to help build confidence and happiness whiten ourselves to be able to tackle any situation. These sessions can work very well and compliment any Yoga or Gym workout.
