OVERVIEW
“Mount Royal University (MRU) creates a satellite campus at High River United Church (HRUC) for Continuing Education Courses designed for Flood Survivor Support!”
“The Canadian Red Cross enables a course fee subsidy for High River Flood Survivors!”
For the past year, Diane Strickland, a MRU Cont. Ed. instructor, has been providing recovery support in High River. With her contract completed, Diane worked with MRU, HRUC and the Red Cross to locally offer four of her courses adapted for flood survivors.
People who complete these courses may apply for a subsidy; that is the course fee minus $25. Course registrants will receive that application on completion of the course, signed by the instructor. Drop it off at the office of HRUC and, if all is in order, your subsidy will be mailed to you.
“Not everyone is a good fit for mental health programs or faith-based support groups. We hope folks will feel comfortable in these MRU courses and gain the tools they need to keeping moving forward.”
HRUC will host the courses and administer the subsidies. Lead Minister for Congregation and Community Care, David Robertson, notes that this service resonates with the congregation’s ongoing commitment to support their town with help, home and hope. Recently, HRUC provided front line service providers with two day events focusing on Compassion Fatigue, with a US disaster team donating their leadership for High River.
“It’s a simple mission. We are here for this community. This is another great collaboration--this time with MRU and the Canadian Red Cross.” |
