A Message to Connect - March 23, 2020

Hello HRUC community & friends,

 60667639646 FA05DE5B-8967-4821-8172-64A2F50711E2

This is a photo from our sanctuary this morning.  We added the green cloth for this 4th week of Lent to symbolize the arrival of spring and to remind us that there is a path of hope and possibility, even in the midst of all that is happening.  The light of Christ is shining and enfolding us all – it keeps us together while we are apart.  Today’s reading from the gospel of John says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled; neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 – a good verse to keep repeating to ourselves, to bring alongside all of the alarm out them.

Here is some information for you today:

1. Right now the church building is open - Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to Noon for pick-ups & drop-offs.  This could change at anytime to us not being open.  Please know that we are ensuring social distancing and have hand-sanitizer available in many spots.  If you would like to have a longer conversation with Rev. David or Rev. Susan, we can do so by phone, by FaceTime, and soon by video conferencing via Zoom (more to come on that.)  Just e-mail us or phone us to set up a time.   (Church phone: 403-652-3168  or  contact us via this website's contact button.)

2. Sunday morning worship continues to be suspended for the foreseeable future.  When we are able to gather again safely, we will celebrate Easter, no matter what month it is???

4. Starting Tuesday, March 23rd, we invite you to pray at home at 10:00 am each day. There will be no gatherings, even the small ones, at the church.  Light a candle or sit in a special place with your Bible. Use the prayer and scripture readings (PDF below) .   Rev. David and Rev. Susan will be lighting a candle each day at 10:00 am wherever we are that day, and thinking of all of you.  In this way, we can all be together while apart - knowing that we are all pausing at this time to remember each other and to connect through God's presence.

5. Rev. Susan & Rev. David will soon be doing a video or audio recording of a message, candle-lighting, etc. you can watch at home.  Watch for the links in an e-mail.

6.  Remember all of the resources (blogs, sermons, announcements, etc.) on this website.

7. Your offerings are as important as ever so that we can be help, home & hope for each other. We are doing what we can to reduce expenses and be wise in the use of resources. Yet we still need the offerings so that we can be here for you now and in the days to come.  If you are not already on PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance from your bank account), please ask us about how to sign up. You can also give online by going to the bottom of this page to "Give Securely Online" or go to www.CanadaHelps.org  and search High River United Church.  Or drop it by the church or mail it to Box 5520, High River, AB T1V 1M6

Many blessings to each of you,

Rev. Susan & Rev. David
