High River United Church of High River, Alberta

A Message to Connect - March 19, 2020

Hello HRUC congregation & friends,

It’s the first day of spring – but hard to tell that from looking outdoors. Oh well, this is Alberta & spring is around the corner.

Today’s scripture reading that we are sharing is Luke 8:22-25, about Jesus stilling the storm. Jesus is asleep in the boat when the storm comes up. He is so sound asleep that his disciples have to shout to wake him up. “We’re perishing,” they cry. Jesus spoke to the storm, and it ceased. Everything was calm. “Where is your faith,” he asked the disciples.   May we allow Jesus to speak today to the storm of alarm and anxiety in our hearts. May we allow our faith in God’s presence to bring a calm that comes beside the natural alarm we feel, for God is with us; we are not alone.

Welcome Your Tears - a blog post by Rev. David - take time to read this:

Need something to do during this time of physical isolation. Why not sort things to donate to the High River United Church Garage Sale? We’re not sure exactly when it will happen this spring, or maybe early in the fall. But why not use this time to get your donations ready! We’d love that.

Just a reminder that Sunday worship services have been suspended. By next week, David and I hope to have a recorded sermon to share with you. The Moderator of our church, Rev. Richard Bott, is hosting an online worship. More details can be found at https://www.united-church.ca/community-faith/being-community/worship-online-during-covid-19 (or internet search: united church Canada worship online during covid 19)

David and I continue to pray at 10:00 am each day.  We invite you to use the worship materials below to spend your own time in prayer at 10:00 am, and think about all the others of our congregation who are doing so.

The Seven Sacred Teachings Lenten Study, to be lead by Tony Snow, Indigenous Ministries Resource, is now offered online. It will take place at 7:00 pm on Tuesdays, March 24, 31 and April 7. To register for one of these free sessions, please contact us via the contact button on this website and you will receive an invitation to join the session via the online application, Zoom.

Remember also to check other sections of our website for updates and blog posts. You can also listen to sermons (Listen Online on home page) or print out sermons (under Worship Tab: Sermons in Print). And you can give online, by scrolling to the bottom of the page and looking for the Give Online button.

Many blessings to each of you. You are in our hearts and prayers.

Rev. Susan & Rev. David
