A Message to Connect Us in This Time Apart

Hello HRUC community & friends,

As we journey through the new measures related to containing COVID-19, we are committed to maintaining connection with you.

Receive the words of Isaiah 41:10 – and repeat them to yourself several times a day:

Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my strong hands.

Remember – even as people of faith, we still feel alarmed by the situation, because we are human. Alarm is meant to keep us safe. But as people of faith, we bring our faith in the love and care of God alongside our alarm, to help us trust that there is a way through this when we all work together with God’s love.

Also – here is a great idea I read today: Wash your hands & say the Lord’s Prayer. If you say the Lord’s Prayer at a good pace, not slowly – it lasts 20 secs. That’s just the right amount of time for good handwashing. Not only do you have clean hands, you also connect with your faith.

We will be sending messages several times a week, in order to connect and to update information.

1. Right now the church building is open - Monday to Thursday. This will change as needed.

2. Please feel free to drop by to walk the labyrinth or just walk, or to sit and pray in the sanctuary. Surfaces are cleaned regularly. Hand sanitizer is available at both doors; lots of soap in bathroom.

3. Sunday morning worship is suspended for now.

But …. Starting Wednesday, March 18th, we will have a brief prayer service in the sanctuary five mornings a week - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.  Rev. David and/or Rev. Susan will light a candle, read a scripture verse, and share a 15-20 minute time of      prayer and silence.   They will be lighting a candle in their own home on Fridays & Saturdays    at 10:00 am and sharing prayer and scripture. We invite you, if you are at home at 10:00 am         each day, to light a candle and/or sit in a special place with your Bible.  Take a few minutes to             pray for your friends and family, for High River United Church, all the High River churches &         faith groups, for the world, and for medical staff everywhere who are the front lines in       addressing this pandemic.

In this way, we can all be together while apart - knowing that we are all pausing at this time to remember each other and to connect through God's presence. Watch for a daily prayer and suggested scripture readings coming soon.

5. Your offerings are as important as ever so that we can be help, home & hope for each other.  If you are not already on PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance from your bank account), please ask us about how to sign up. You can also give online at CanadaHelps.org   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/high-river-united-church/ Please note: they will issue your tax receipt, not us.   OR drop your offering envelopes by the church. Post-dated cheques are also welcome. Or mail to High River United Church, Box 5520, High River, AB T1V 1M6

With our deepest love and blessings,

Rev. Susan & Rev. David & your church Council
