Earlier this month we sent the following text to our sisters and brothers at the High  River Islamic Centre:

Greetings and peace to our brothers and sisters of the High River Islamic Center.

We are writing on behalf of our faith community to express our compassion and concern following the recent violence committed in Quebec City against the Muslim community.  We are all deeply saddened by this atrocity.  We are without adequate words.

Your faith community remains to be a treasure in our hearts and it hurts us deeply as we try to imagine how this shooting impacts each of you.  It matters to us that we strive to be loving neighbours and continue to grow the friendship that we share.  It is important to us that we nurture peace together and draw on the wisdom and compassion that both our spiritual traditions hold dearly.  Please know that we are holding your community of faith in our prayers as we ask for God’s light and love to surround us all as we grieve the loss of life in Quebec City and heal from the suffering caused by hate.

In the coming days, may God’s spirit bless you and surround you with light and peace.  Please know that we are remembering you in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Rev. David L. Robertson, Rev. Susan A. Lukey, Mr. Bob Findlay (HRUC Council Chair)
