YOUTH MINISTER
         High River United Church

At the January 2008 Annual Meeting, the congregation of High River United Church approved the hiring of a Youth Minister for 15 hours per week beginning in September 2008, to support our volunteer youth leaders, to provide a Sunday morning program and to make ongoing connections with our youth. Foothills Presbytery has now approved the job description. Our goal is to have a Youth Minister in place by September 2008. If you are or you know someone who would be interested, have them contact Cathy Drescher at (403) 601-2639 for more details and for information on applying.

What a Difference a Year Makes!
(This is a fairly large file so please be patient)

Opening Celebration

for our Renewed Facility will be held on
October 3, 4, and 5th.

Plans are still unfolding but this is what we imagine the weekend looking like.

* Friday evening: Appreciation banquet (by invitation) for our Trades People, Suppliers, Building Team, Project Manager.

* Saturday: 10 am to 2 pm Open House for the Community and Congregation. People are invited to drop by for a tour, for coffee/tea/juice and cookies.

* Sunday:
10:30 am: service “Returning Home” with Guest Preacher  Rev. Bobbi Kaye of St. John's United Methodist Church, Austin, Texas, (a partner congregation to High River United Church) with appreciation offered to everyone in our congregation who offered their help from prayer to pounding nails.

Noon: Soup and Bun and more

2:00 pm: Opening Celebration and Dedication with greetings from community leaders and broader church leaders followed by cake and tours.

We each contribute in our own way.
Together we are building our church!

The building team is working hard and putting in many hours beyond what we asked. To date, we are on track with our budget, with some items coming in more than expected and others coming in under projected figures.

We are grateful to the many trades, businesses and congregational members who have offered work and material at discounts or free of charge. And a big thank you to those who are able to volunteer or bring food the site. A big thank you also to those who are holding this building project, our project manager, building team and workers in your prayers.

Guidelines for Volunteers
·         Share work with a partner for safety and fellowship.
·         We never work on Sunday and seldom work on Monday.
·         Boards with nails should be turned over or, preferably, have the nails removed
·         The electrical panel if off limits.
·         Stop when you are tired.
·         Say “no” if asked to do something above your comfort level.
·         Enjoy your time and enjoy being part of creating your new church building

You can help:

Some of the work requires technical experience and that is hired when experienced volunteers are not available.   Volunteers who can carry materials to the workers, remove surplus material and keep the site clean can assist the hired help are needed.   Call Jack Penny at 652-1163.

An hour volunteered is an hour not hired and that leaves more resources to enhance the church.

Work at the site occurs Tuesday through Saturday.  Lunch is served on Saturday.

  A MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTERS

We would like to say “Thank you!” to all of you for offering your care and support through this sabbatical. We very much need a time of rest and renewal and family time. We think everyone needs times of sabbatical in their lives and we know that this is important timing for us. Our goal is to come back refreshed and energized in order to support and energize all of you who have been working so hard in so many ways through this time of transition for our congregation.

Our sabbatical will take our family on many adventures allowing us time for learning, growth, and renewal.  We won’t be available for the regular ministerial duties, but we will still be glad to say, “Hi!” to you on the street or in the store.

May God’s Spirit touch your life with kindness and courage this day. We wish you deep peace.

Rev. David Robertson
Rev. Susan Lukey
