How To Give

How do I support the church?

At High River United Church, we are excited about God’s mission at work in our midst. We value your support of our mission and ministry through your financial gifts as well as your gifts of time, energy and talent.

Each year in March, our congregation gathers to reflect on its ministry and mission goals. That is when we indicate to our community the financial resources we need to fund our many ministries and make sure that they have what they need. This includes everything from children’s worship supplies; programming for children, youth and adults; staff salaries; local and global emergency ministries, and virtually everything you are reading about in this booklet. Of course we also need financial resources to operate our facility, clear the snow in the winter and keep the grass cut in the summer. What you may not know is that our congregation raises the resources we need to support all of our ministries!

We give to the ministry and mission of our congregation because we believe it transforms people’s lives and makes a difference in the world. Giving is a Christian spiritual practice. We literally give to God as a way to say thank you for God’s abundance; for all that we have and are! We ask God to bless our offering that it might be become gifts of peace, justice and transformation for God’s world and all creation.

What should I give? First we invite you to pray about your offering remembering that your act of giving is a spiritual act. For centuries Christians have offered a set portion or percentage of their income. The Bible invites us to give “the first fruits of the harvest”. What we invite you to do, according to our spiritual tradition, is give to God first. Then you know who is first in your life!

How shall I give?

We’d invite you to be part of supporting the vibrant mission and ministry of High River United. There are several ways you can support the work of your congregation, become an identifiable giver and receive a tax receipt each year.

  1. Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) Fill in a form at the church office to have your offering withdrawn automatically from your bank account each month. This helps the congregation have an even cash flow throughout the year.
  2. Online by Credit Card Go here to give online  Please note: your income tax receipt comes from Canada Helps.org.
  3. E-transfer to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   Please add a note if your donation is designated for a specific purpose.
  4. Weekly or monthly offering envelopes can be requested through the church office. These are marked with your designated number.
  5. Weekly donations in the offering plate. All offerings toward our mission of being a community of help, home and hope make a difference. Yet, we’d love to identify your givings through methods #1-4 so that we can thank you and offer you a yearly tax receipt.

Mission and Service Fund

Mission and Service Fund (M & S) is the United Church’s way of helping people across Canada and around the world. Our Mission Minute each week highlights the work of the M & S Fund. If mission.jpgyou wish to support M & S, add your M & S donation to your offering and designate that amount in whatever your giving method. We’ll forward it to the M & S Fund.

ELM Fund

The ELM Fund manages the Endowments, Legacy Gifts and Memorial Funds for the congregation. Money for this fund is received through bequests and insurance policies in which High River United Church is designated as a beneficiary. Contact us for more information about how you can leave a faith-filled legacy and support the ongoing ministry and mission of High River United Church through a special gift from your estate.

Memorial Fund

This fund, managed under the ELM Fund, receives special donations in memory of people who have died. Money from this fund is used to purchase items or make improvements for the church which will be a visible tribute to the person/people who are being remembered. When leaving instructions for your funeral/memorial service or when planning a family member’s service, please consider inviting people to make a contribution to the Memorial Fund of High River United Church.

Thank you

for being a part of God’s work

through this congregation!
