Walking the labyrinth is one of many spiritual practices we
offer for those who are seeking to deepen their relationship
with God.

Labyrinth Worship & Workshops
About once a month we will hold an evening candlelight walk. We
will also be holding worship services and workshops focussed on
the labyrinth. In December, our longest night service will
include a time to walk the labyrinth for those who wish. If you
wish to be on the e-mail list to be alerted of these events,
please let us know at hruc@telus.net or check the announcements
page on website
Why walk a Labyrinth?
Each of us approach prayer in different ways. Some people like
to sit in the quiet. Some find movement a helpful. The labyrinth
provides the space and pattern for walking prayer. The path we
walk on the labyrinth becomes a metaphor for our lives. As we
walk the path, we open ourselves to God’s wisdom and guidance
for our life journey. The labyrinth is a tool that helps us
centre our lives in the midst of fear, doubt, grief, or anxiety.
It helps us find the still point in the midst of the chaotic
world. It creates spaciousness and clarity.
A Brief History of the Labyrinth
The labyrinth is an ancient sacred pattern, dating back over
four thousand years. Almost every faith tradition has a form of
labyrinth. Our labyrinth is based on the design of the labyrinth
found in the Notre Dame de Chartres Cathedral in Chartres,
France. This 11 circuit labyrinth was built in 1201 and still
exists today.
Maze or Labyrinth – what’s the difference?
We often use the words “labyrinth” and “maze” interchangeably.
Yet the words are distinct.
A maze is a winding path that has choices to be made and dead
ends which cause one to backtrack.

A labyrinth is a winding path that has no
choices or dead ends.
There is only one way to get to and from the centre.
